Matt Curtis Signs National Letter of Intent with Fairfield Men’s Basketball

Guard is currently in a post-graduate season at Avon Old Farms

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Head Coach Jay Young has announced the signing of Matt Curtis to a National Letter of Intent to join Fairfield University Men's Basketball as a part of the Class of 2027. Curtis is currently in a post-graduate year at Avon Old Farms.

"We're really excited to add Matt to our team. He's a local kid who scored the ball at a high level over the course of his high school career at Northwest Catholic," said Young. "His ability to shoot the ball will translate immediately to this level, while the prep year he's doing now at Avon Old Farms will further prepare him physically for the rigors of college basketball. Matt comes from a tremendous family and we're thrilled to have him join our program."

A 6-3 guard from Ellington, Conn., Curtis is one of the top-ranked recruits in New England following a standout scholastic career at Northwest Catholic High School. The three-time All-State selection graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,911 career points, averaging 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a senior for the Lions.

Curtis, who led Northwest Catholic to the state championship game last season, also played on the AAU circuit with Team Spartans, one of New England's top programs.

"Matt had a tremendous high school career and will have an outstanding college career at Fairfield," said Northwest Catholic Head Coach John Mirabello. "He was a great kid to be around and have in our program. He shows up to compete every day."

"I am thrilled for Matt to sign with Fairfield," Avon Old Farms Head Coach Matt Mihalich added. "He is so naturally talented, yet he carries no entitlement. He just shows up daily, works hard, leads, and makes a ton of shots. The MAAC is an incredible basketball league, and the Stags got a winner in Matt."

The 2022-23 edition of the Stags returns to the court this Friday, Nov. 11 for a 1 p.m. matinee at New Hampshire.
