FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sam Tonole and
Noah Duncan secured the top two spots in the men's competition diving while Lia Oppenheim and Ellizabeth Beaulieu paced the women's competition to provide the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams with a strong start at the Fairfield Invitational. The swimming portion of the Fairfield Invitational is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday.
Tonole captured the top spot in the 1 meter dive, scoring 223.05 points which was a couple points better than Duncan's runner-up score of 221.55. Wagner College's Carter Green rounded out the top three by accumulating 185.55 points. In the 3 meter dive, Fairfield's two student-athletes switched places in the standings with Duncan taking first place by collecting 252.75 points through his rotation. Tonole secured second place by registering 236.45 points which was ahead of Green's point total of 188.35.
On the women's side, Fairfield placed two divers in the competition and both finished in the top 10 in both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives. During the 1 meter event, Oppenheim was the Stags' top finisher by taking fifth place based on her 201.55 points. Beaulieu grabbed ninth place in the event with her 187.55 points. Olivia McNicholas earned the first-place slot after scoring 224.95 points and was followed by Central Connecticut's Elyse Boothroyd (209.60) and Sacred Heart's Lola Barrett (207.15).
Both Fairfield divers competed in the 3 meter dive with Oppenheim moving into the second spot for the event, recording 223.35 points which was just off McNicholas' point total of 225.20 markers. Meliti Efthimiou completed the top three in the standings by compiling 203.90 points. Beaulieu finished ninth in this event with her 182.15 points.
