Alexey Belfer earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) swimmer of the week award for his performance during the season-opening Fairfield Invitational on Saturday. The junior won two individual events and was also a member of two relay first-place efforts in the four-team event.
Alexey Belfer won two individual events and was part of both winning relay teams to give the junior four victories at the Fairfield Invitational. Individually, Belfer touched the wall first in the 50 free (23.11) and in the 100 free (51.97). He set the Invitational record in the 50 free by 0.6 seconds and set the Invitational standard for the 100 free by 0.37 seconds. He was also part of the relay teams that placed first in the 200 medley relay (1:45.06) and the 400 free relay (3:31.83).
The Fairfield University men's swimming and diving program will be back in action this weekend when the Stags host Monmouth University at the RecPlex pool on Saturday. The dual meet will begin at 12 pm.
