Sansone Earns National and Conference Honors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Baseball left-hander Michael Sansone had the best of both worlds in the Stags' 6-0 week, as the junior fired a complete game, double digit strikeout victory, and earned a save in back-to-back appearances. For his efforts, Sansone was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week and also was one of 11 players selected as the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week.

"Michael is one of the most intelligent pitchers I've been around," Fairfield Pitching Coach Jordan Tabakman said. "His preparation is as good as it gets and he makes our pitching staff better by the standards he sets for himself. Our confidence is very high every moment the ball is in his hand."

Sansone totaled 13 strikeouts in eight innings over the week, highlighted by a career-high 10 punchouts in the 7-inning complete game against Monmouth. Just three days before his start, Sansone slammed the door and earned his first career save by striking out the side against Quinnipiac.

Sansone struck out double digit batters for the first time in his career while allowing four hits and two earned runs. Sansone entered the final inning allowing just a double and an infield single to the first 20 batters he faced.

For the year, Sansone is tied for the MAAC lead with a perfect 4-0 record with a 2.93 ERA and a .194 opponent's batting average. He has fanned a team-high 28 batters in 27.2 innings.

Sansone has helped the Stags become one of the best pitching staffs in the country, as the Stags lead all of NCAA in ERA (1.96) and WHIP (0.87). That has helped the Stags to a perfect 20-0 record and the number one spot in the most recent national RPI rankings.

Sansone and the Stags embark on their first road trip of the season when they head to Jersey City, N.J., for a doubleheader matchup with Saint Peter's on Wednesday at noon
