FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team released the conference portion of its 2021 Spring Schedule in conjunction with the Northeast Conference's announcement this afternoon. The Stags will play six games against NEC opponents which includes three home and three away games.
The Stags will start the Northeast Conference slate by traveling cross town for a March 18 match up with Sacred Heart University. Following that date, Fairfield will open the home portion of its schedule by hosting Bryant University on March 22 at University Field. Head Coach
Jackie Kane will bring her team back to the road to complete the first half of the NEC schedule for an April 1 contest against LIU.
The team's final road game of the campaign sends the Stags to Rider University in a rematch of the 2019 NEC Tournament championship game. The final two games on the slate take place in Fairfield with the team hosting Merrimack College on April 5 before welcoming Wagner College for the final regular-season date. The NEC Championship game is scheduled for the week of April 19-24 and will feature the top two seeds facing each other for the title.
Fairfield is the defending conference champion, winning the regular-season and the tournament title in 2019. The team was unbeaten in NEC play that season, running the table with a 6-0 record. The Stags were ranked in the national poll throughout the 2019 campaign and finished the season with a 19-3 overall record. Fairfield won a match in the 2019 NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history with a 3-1 win over nationally-ranked American University.
