Men's Soccer Earns MAAC Postseason Honors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Four Fairfield University men's soccer student-athletes earned recognition from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) as the organization announced its annual postseason awards this morning. The selection was made based upon the vote of the MAAC head soccer coaches.

Defender Cormac Pike garnered a spot on the All-MAAC first team while forwards Jonathan Filipe and Thomas Drillien captured All-MAAC second team accolades. Forward Rasmus Sorensen Rejnhold capped the Fairfield award winners with a berth to the MAAC All-Rookie team.

Pike has anchored the Stags defense throughout his four-year stay with the Stags, earning All-MAAC honors in 2020-21 spring season as well as MAAC All-Rookie laurels in 2018. With his assistance, the back line has allowed 1.31 goals per game during his four-year career with the Stags. He also contributed up front with four goals and seven assists for 15 points including a pair of assists this season.

Filipe placed second among MAAC scoring leaders with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points through the 16-game regular season (1.60 points per game). The senior, who was an All-Rookie pick in 2018, was responsible for a pair of game winning goals and converted all five of his penalty kick opportunities this season. He was the team's most accurate shooter with 28 attempts on goal out of 56 shots taken.

Drillien picks up his second MAAC postseason honor in as many years as the sophomore also collected MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie honors in 2020-21. This season, Drillien ranked second among the Fairfield scorers with six goals and five assists for 17 points. He has one game-winning goal and appeared in all 17 games played during the Fall.

Sorensen Rejnhold put together one of the best freshman seasons in school history with his seven goals and two assists for 16 points. The forward led the team with three game-winning goals and scored on seven of his 13 shots on goal. He was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on October 18 after scoring both goals in a win over Manhattan and a third goal in a 2-0 decision over Iona.

The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under the guidance of Head Coach Carl Rees, advanced to the MAAC Tournament semifinals with a 2-0 win over Niagara in a quarterfinal match on November 7. The Stags will travel to Rider University for a semifinal match on November 11 with kick off slated for 7 pm.
