Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Four Score in Double Figures, Stags Clipped at Boston College

Cook leads the way with career-high 16 points

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – For the second time this week, Fairfield University Men's Basketball went toe-to-toe against a Power 5 host but came up just shy of the upset. Sunday's opponent was traditional New England rival Boston College, and despite four Stags netting double figures, the Eagles came away with the 72-64 decision.

"I thought Boston College's physicality gave us trouble. They were able to move us around and a lot of our catches weren't where they needed to be," said Head Coach Jay Young. "It just comes to down to getting back in the gym and getting better every day. We still have a lot to work on in a lot of different areas."

Fairfield is 0-2 on the season after the single-digit losses at Providence (80-73) and Boston College. BC moves to 3-0 on the young season, having previously hosted and defeated Dartmouth (73-57) and Holy Cross (85-55).

Supreme Cook led the Stags' offense with a new career-high 16 points. Cook shot 4-for-8 from the field and drew plenty of contact from his BC counterparts – including seven-footer Quinten Post – finishing at 8-for-10 from the free throw line. The sophomore also pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.

"In our first two games, Supreme gone up against two of the biggest and best he'll see this season and has really held his own," noted Young. "It's a testament to the work he put in throughout the offseason that he's shown this level of improvement."

Taj Benning added 14 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers and also dishing three assists. TJ Long filled out his stat sheet with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists, and Jesus Cruz also scored 13 points fueled by a 3-for-6 performance from three-point range.

Long and Cruz accounted for 26 of the Stags' 29 bench points, with Chris Maidoh adding three in a reserve role. Jake Wojcik rounded out the scoring with five second-half points.

The Stags were outrebounded, 36-29, with each side managing 10 second-chance points. Fairfield held the edge in turnover margin, forcing 15 while committing 14, but the Eagles scored 17 points off the turnovers compared to the Stags' 13 points off BC miscues.

Makai Ashton-Langford led all scorers with 17 points for Boston College, and his brother DeMarr Langford added 16.

Up next, the Stags start a stretch of four straight games within Fairfield County, including three at Webster Bank Arena. First up is the home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 16 with a 7 p.m. visit from Medgar Evers College. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster and the Webster Bank Arena box office.
