Box Score DELAND, Fla. – The Fairfield University Baseball team scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to tie game against Ohio State 3-3, but the Buckeyes plated five runs in the bottom half for an 8-3 decision over the Stags.
The Stags scored their three runs on three hits in the eighth inning with three different players collecting RBI. With the bases loaded,
Eric Cerno was hit by a pitch and
Mike Caruso worked out a walk to open up Fairfield's scoring.
Nick Esposito got the big hit of the inning with a RBI single, but the second runner was thrown out at the plate.
The Buckeyes would break the tie with five-straight hitters reaching base to begin the inning.
Michael Sansone did not allow a hit against Ohio State until the fifth where the Buckeyes collected four hits and scored three runs.
Mike Cowell was impressive out of the bullpen with two innings and surrendering just one hit.
Fairfield collected eight hits on the night with
Mike Handal and
Justin Guerrera each picking up multi-hit games.
The Stags will stay in Florida and take on Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, March 10 at 7pm.
