FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Stags will play the middle game of their three-game home stand on Friday night when the Fairfield University men's basketball team will welcome Manhattan College to to their campus. The two teams will meet at Alumni Hall for a 7 pm tip.
The Stags came up short against Marist on Wednesday night, falling by a 70-58 decision at Webster Bank Arena. Fairfield led only twice in the game, both leads coming off the hands of
Vincent Eze. The graduate student scored the game's first points just 45 seconds into the contest and added a layup in the lane that capped a 7-0 run and pushed the Stags in front, 12-11, with 10:56 remaining in the first half.
Eze was the catalyst once again for the Stags as he finished the game with a co-leading 13 points. He has led or co-led the team in scoring in three of the last six games, averaging 12.2 points over those six contests.
Aidas Kavaliauskas was the student-athlete that equaled Eze's output on Wednesday night. The senior continues to raise his points per game average each game, checking into the Manhattan date with 5.1 points per game.
The Stags have two student-athletes averaging better than 13 points per game, led by
Landon Taliaferro's 13.6 scoring average.
Jesus Cruz is just under that number with his 13.1 points every forty minutes. Fairfield plays the middle game of a three-game home stand that ends on Wednesday night when the Stags host Saint Peter's at Alumni Hall.
The Jaspers play for their fourth straight road game this evening as they come to Alumni Hall to complete a swing that started with a pair of games in upstate New York. Manhattan opened the three-game run with wins at Canisius College (71-67) and at Niagara University (67-62). Tykei Greene averaged 17 points per game highlighted by his 21-point effort against Niagara which helped the sophomore collect Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week honors.
Pauly Paulicap also posted a pair of double-figure games for the Jaspers, netting 16 points against Niagara and 13 points in the Canisius game. The senior also secured seven rebounds in both ends of the Buffalo trip. Greene paces the Jaspers' offense with a 12.1 scoring average, the only team member netting more than 10 points per game. Paulicap is not too far from the mark with his 9.6 points every forty minutes. Manhattan returns home for three straight games following tonight, a run which beings by hosting Siena on January 12.
