KINGSTON, R.I. – Fairfield men's and women's swimming and diving took part in the URI Invitational on Friday which included the University of Rhode Island and the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Stags had a strong showing winning multiple events including a new school record by
Erik Hren.
On the men's side, the Stags started out with a second-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as
Will Robinson,
Peter Sloan,
Jordan Rahurahu, and
Ian Nelson clocked in at 1:37.16.
Erik Hren won the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a new school record time of 15:50.70. This time also moved Hren into second in the MAAC in this event this season.
Patrick Boyle and
Brendan Finnegan finished in second and third place respectively behind Hren with times of 16:22.53 and 16:41.95.
Evan Fair took home the win in the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a final time of 4:11.67. Fair also placed third in both the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Jordan Rahurahu finished in second place at 1:46.60 in the 200 Yard Freestyle and placed second in the 500 Yard Freestyle clocking in at 4:51.78.
Guillem Perez finished in second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke at 2:13.79 and placed third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Austin Twiss picked up a third-place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly while
Thomas Willemse came in third in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Fair, Hren,
Peter Gori, and Finnegan finished in third to finish the day in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.
For the women,
Lauren Olczak won the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 18:23.28.
Maria Nitti,
Sara Ostensen,
Samantha D'Alessandro and
Emily Holman finished in second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay clocking in at 1:41.60. D'Alessandro finished in second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.59.
Colleen Young finished in third place in the 200 Yard Breaststroke while
Sara Ostensen placed third in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
Haleigh McLaughlin also placed third in the 200 Yard Butterfly.

Fairfield will return to action on February 1 as they host Manhattan at the RecPlex Pool at 1 PM.
