FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse hosted a nationally-ranked foe for the second time in 2019 as #11/12 Towson came to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday for a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tilt. This afternoon's contest saw the visiting Tigers come away with a 14-7 decision, as Fairfield was paced offensively by three points apiece from
Patrick Drake and
Dylan Beckwith.
Beckwith and
Jack Brennan each scored two goals for Fairfield (5-6, 0-2 CAA), with single tallies coming from Drake,
Travis Ford and
Brendan Quinn. Drake was also one of the Stags' top facilitator with two assists, joined by his fellow rookie
Brian Reda's pair of helpers. Beckwith and Ford added one assist apiece to round out the scoring effort.
Ford's goal was a man-up tally – his eighth career goal on the advantage. The marker snapped Towson's streak of 295 minutes without ceding an EMO goal. The streak encompassed four complete games and a total of seven successful man-down situations for the Tigers' defense. Ford also extended his streak to 11 consecutive games with a goal dating back to the end of last season.
With his three points today, Beckwith continued his climb up Fairfield's all-time leaderboard. With 51 goals and 53 assists to his credit since 2017, he became only the ninth Stag to join the 50-Goal, 50-Assist Club. On the single-season charts, Beckwith's team-best 49 points this spring slot him one goal or assist shy of the 13th 50-point campaign in program history. He has scored a point in 19 straight outings for the Stags, including eight consecutive multiple-point performances.
On the other end of the field, Fairfield was led by starting defenseman
George Elmquist. Already one of only three Stags to ever record five caused turnovers in a game, Elmquist accomplished that feat again with five takeaway today.
Jake Tymon added three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls, and
Andrew Murrow pressured the Tigers into a pair of giveaways.
James Corasaniti went the distance and made 10 saves in the cage to post double-digit stops for the fifth consecutive game and the seventh time in 10 starts in his rookie season.
Towson (7-3, 2-0 CAA) was led by its standout faceoff specialist Alex Woodall, who went 22-of-25 on the dot with 16 ground balls and two assists. With Woodall keeping the Tigers on the attack, Timmy Monahan (2g, 3a), Brendan Sunday (4g, 1a) and Luke Fromert (4g, 1a) all had five-point outings for the visitors. Goalkeeper Tyler Canto made that scoring effort stand up with 15 saves in the cage.
Up next, the Stags will play the first of back-to-back CAA road games next Saturday, April 13 at Drexel. The Dragons are 4-6 on the season with an 0-2 CAA mark after a 15-13 home loss to Delaware today.
