Beckwith nets six points on the road

PHILADELPHIA – Host Drexel broke open a 9-6 game at the intermission with 12 second-half goals to pull away from Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse in a 21-9 decision on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. Dylan Beckwith led the Stags with three goals and three assists in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contest.

With his six-point effort, Beckwith has officially posted the 13th 50-point season in Fairfield history and just the third since 1999. Beckwith's 55 points and 28 assists in 2019 both rank eighth on the Stags' single-season list. On the career charts, Beckwith climbs to 15th all-time with 110 career points and ranks seventh in program history with 56 career assists. The junior has manufactured a 20-game point scoring streak dating back to last spring and has racked up multiple points in his last nine outings.

In today's game, Patrick Drake netted a hat trick for Fairfield (5-7, 0-3 CAA) for the third time in his rookie campaign. He is the CAA's third most-prolific scoring freshman with 17 goals and 26 total points this season.

Jack Brennan, Matt Sharpe and Taylor Strough each added one goal for the Stags. Rounding out the scoring were Brendan Quinn and Brian Reda with one assist apiece.

On the other end of the field, Sean McKee made 15 saves in his first start of the season in the cage. The squad in front of him was led by George Elmquist, Andrew Murrow, Sean Sweeney and LSM Jake Tymon with one caused turnover apiece. Elmquist and Tymon also each collected two ground balls, as did short-stick defensive midfielder Brendan Dreyer.

The effort on the draw was led by Liam Lynch with four faceoff wins. Will Kirshner came away with two restarts and Bill McMenamin won one.

Ryan Genord led Drexel (5-6, 1-2 CAA) with four goals and five total points. Matthew Varian also had a five-point afternoon comprised of two goals and three assists. Jimmeh Koita went 24-of-29 on the dot with 10 ground balls, and Ross Blumenthal picked up the win in the cage with nine saves.

The Stags wrap up the road portion of the CAA schedule next Saturday, April 20, with a 3 p.m. visit to #19 UMass. The Minutemen moved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the CAA with a 14-10 win at #9/11 Towson this afternoon in Maryland.
