HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Just hours after the announcement of
Justin Guerrera's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week award, the freshman took a big step in defending his title. The rookie led a balanced offensive display for the Fairfield University Baseball team with three hits as the Stags stayed hot with a 9-7 road victory at Hofstra. The win is Fairfield's fifth-straight in the series and their 11th win in their last 13 outings overall.
Guerrera went 3-for-4 in the win, his second-straight three-hit game and his fourth multi-hit effort in his last six outings.
It wasn't just Guerrera who helped pace the offense as every Stag starter tallied at least one hit in the contest. The first three Stags (16-14) singled to start the game with
Jack Gethings capping the stretch with a run scoring hit. Guerrera would score the second run of the game on a throwing error and
Dan Ryan would follow with a sacrifice fly.
Anthony Boselli drove in a run with a single in the second and Guerrera tallied a RBI base hit in the third.
Mike Caruso singled through the right side to bring home
Dan Ryan and
Tom Ryan would plate two with a double down the left field line.
Brendan Harkin was credited with the win as he pitched a scoreless fifth.
Tristan Amone and
Ian Halpin pitched scoreless frames to set up
Nick Grabek for the save opportunity. Grabek would allow a run but shut the door for his seventh save of the season, tying Dan Gallagher for the second most in a single season in Fairfield history.
The win was Fairfield's 11th in their last 13 outings and brought their season total to 16.
The Stags will try to add on to that win total when they visit Saint Peter's for a three-game series starting with a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
