KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Fairfield University Women's Golf opened the spring with 54 holes of action at the 2019 Kiawah Island Spring Classic hosted by the College of Charleston. The Stags improved their team score in each round at Osprey Point Golf Club, finishing 45th at the nation's largest collegiate tournament.
 
Fairfield shaved off 19 strokes from Round 1 (344) to Round 2 (325). In Tuesday's action, the quintet bettered its mark by four shots for a final round 321. In the process, the Stags topped North Alabama, Hofstra, Hampton and MAAC opponent Monmouth on the team leaderboard.
 
Individually, Alexa Brown set the pace for the Stags with a 240 (85-78-77) highlighted by the two low rounds by a Fairfield golfer at the event. Taylor Rogers, Madison Banas, Riley Sullivan and Arianna Palmeri also hit the course for the Stags on the weekend. All five Stags carded at least one round of 82 or better as they progressed through their three rounds on Kiawah Island.
 
Coastal Carolina and North Florida shared the team title with matching 54-hole scores of 865 (+1). Third-place Tulsa and sixth-place host College of Charleston shared the lowest round of the tournament as each club fired a 283 on Tuesday.
 
Medalist honors went to Sydney Shrader of North Florida, who fired a 67 (-5) on Tuesday to secure the individual title by one stroke over Ramya Meenakshisundaram of South Florida.
 
Up next, the Stags will head further south for the Lonnie Barton Invitational on March 4-5. The tournament will be held at LPGA International in Dayton Beach, Fla.
