Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Red Foxes scored the first 13 points of the game and never looked back as the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team could never really find a rhythm on either side of the ball in an 85-44 loss on the road.
Â
The struggles started early for the Stags, who missed all 15 shot attempts in the first quarter with their only two points coming from the free throw line from
Rachel Hakes. On the other end, Marist would open up the game on a 13-0 run with the first six coming from their leading scorer Rebekah Hand.
Â
Fairfield could not find the back of the net until the 8:55 mark of the second quarter when
Sam Kramer stopped the streak with a jumper. Fairfield would go 1-for-20 from the field and 0-for-8 from behind the arc until they found some success with
Lou Lopez-Senechal and
Casey Foley both connecting on 3-pointers.
Â
However, that success didn't translate to the defensive end as Marist would shoot 71 percent from the field in the first half and grab a 48-17 lead in the intermission.
Â
The Stags would show some life offensively, hitting four field goals in the first four minutes of the second half, the same amount they had the entire first half. Fairfield would start the half on a 7-2 run with five of those points coming from Foley.
Â
The Stags would actually hit six of their first 12 shots in the third quarter but could not stop Marist offensively.
Â
For the game, Marist would shoot 50 percent from behind the arc, hitting 12 of their 24 attempts. The Red Foxes would also hit 56 percent of their shots compared to just 25 for the Stags.
Â
Fairfield was led by
Khadidiatou Diouf and Foley who netted eight points apiece, as 10 different Stags entered the scoring column. Diouf also led with a game-high eight rebounds.
Â
The Stags are back in action for their final road game of the season traveling to Saint Peter's on Friday night at 7pm.
