FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will put their season long three-game winning streak on the line when they host the leaders of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday at 2pm. Quinnipiac comes into the contest unbeaten in league games with a 13-0 record.
The Stags also bring a winning streak into the contest after their most dominating win of the season, defeating Siena 66-40 on the road. The turning point of the game came within a five-minute span in the second quarter as the Stags built up a 20-0 run to turn a 21-12 deficit into a 32-21 advantage. The Fairfield defense would allow just four points in the second quarter and just two in the fourth. The Stags ended the game on a 14-0 run and allowed just one field goal in that final period.
The defense has been the strong suit over this recent stretch of victories, and they showed that again against the Saints. Fairfield scored 19 points off of Siena turnovers and are now averaging 21.3 points off their opponent's miscues over the last five games. The Stags are also forcing an average of 19.2 miscues over that span.
On the offensive front,
Lou Lopez-Senechal led the Stags with 21 points, tying her career-high in that mark and set a new personal best with nine rebounds.
Sam Kramer had her best shooting game of the season going 6-for-8 from 3-point range, including the 100th trifecta of her career. Kramer raised her 3-point shooting percentage in MAAC only games to .476, which currently leads the league.
Casey Foley dished out eight assists in the win at Siena, bringing her career total to 295. She is on the verge of becoming the 16th Stag to reach 300 assists in her career. Foley also entered the top-10 in program history after hitting her 116th career 3-pointer at Siena.
The Bobcats have won 44-straight conference games since last being bested by Fairfield on Feb. 2, 2017 at the Webster Bank Arena.
Quinnipiac is coming off another dominating defensive performance as they limited Manhattan to just six points in the first half, highlighted by a one-point showing in the second quarter. The Bobcats also forced 25 turnovers and limited Manhattan to a .273 shooting percenage in the victory.
Defense has been the key to success for Quinnipiac this season as they lead the MAAC in scoring defense (51.2), field goal percentage defense (.366), 3-point field goal percentage defense (.291), and steals (11.8). The Bobcats have not allowed more than 55 points in a game since January 10, when Marist netted 69 in another Bobcat victory.
Fairfield will next take the court on Tuesday night when they travel to Marist for a 7pm tip-off.
