FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey coaching staff was named the Spideo/NFHCA Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Stags to a school-record 19 victories and their first-ever NCAA tournament win. The Fairfield coaching staff includes Head Coach
Jackie Kane, Assistant Coach Dani Brown, Assistant Coach
Steve Dennis, and Volunteer JeroenSiskens.
Fairfield put together its best season in school history in so many ways, beginning with its win total. The Stags tied the program record for consecutive wins with seven early in the season only to surpass that mark with 12 straight victories. The 12-game run closed out the regular season and included two Northeast Conference tournament victories followed by a 3-1 decision over American University in the opening round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The streak ended with an overtime loss to second-ranked UConn in the first round of the national tournament.
For Kane, the season also included her own milestone victory with the team's overtime victory over Villanova representing the coach's 200th career win in her 25th season at Fairfield. Winning the game in overtime was apropos since the team has won five games in extra time this season. Kane and her staff collected the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year after winning all six regular-season conference games. The coaching staff capped the 2019 campaign by leading the team to the NEC regular-season title and the conference's tournament title.
