Stags Welcome Sixteen Newcomers to Campus for 2018-19

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse has welcomed 16 new student-athletes to campus beginning in the fall of 2018. The new group of Stags, which consists of 15 freshmen and one sophomore transfer, encompasses every position on the field and spans eight different states as well as the District of Columbia.
 
"This is an exceptional group of young men that we are proud to welcome into our program," said Head Coach Andy Copelan. "They are all hard-working and accomplished individuals who will contribute to our team and our University with their efforts both on the lacrosse field and in the classroom."
 
Kyle Borda (Kensington, Md.) played in the midfield at the Gonzaga College High School, where he earned All-WCAC First Team laurels and an All-Met Honorable Mention nod. He helped lead the Eagles to three Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Championships during his scholastic career. Borda will major in Finance at the Dolan School of Business.
 
Borda's older brother Matt was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starting defensemen for the Stags, graduating in 2017 ranked seventh all-time in program history with 35 caused turnovers. Additionally, Kyle's older brother Michael is entering his senior season as a defensemen at Michigan.
 
A two-time All-America defensemen, Nate Carlton (Wilmette, Ill.) was also a two-time all-state and three-time all-conference selection at New Trier High School. New Trier won a State Championship in 2017 and returned to the finals in 2018 to wrap-up a 21-win campaign with Carlton serving as a team captain. He will join the Dolan School of Business in the fall.
 
James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) was a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and All-Academic honoree in his career in goal at Fordham Prep. Corasaniti made 541 saves in his career, earning All-CHSAA First Team laurels and a pair of team MVP nods. He helped lead the Rams to a 2016 State Championship and 2018 City Championship. He will major in Psychology at Fairfield.
 
David Dorsett (Alexandria, Va.) racked up over 200 career points in the midfield at Bishop Ireton High School. The two-time team MVP was a First Team All-WCAC honoree for the Cardinals and also played varsity basketball and soccer. Dorsett won multiple championships at the club level with Madlax Nationals. He intends to major in Marketing in the Dolan School of Business.
 
2018 U.S. Lacrosse All-American Patrick Drake (Wilmington, Del.) comes to Fairfield from the Salesianum School. The Sallies won their fourth-straight DIAA State Championship in 2018, with Drake earning First Team All-State laurels as an attackman. Drake will enter the Dolan School of Business this fall.
 
A U.S. Lacrosse All-American as a senior at Webster Thomas High School, Trevor Ford (Webster, N.Y.) joins his brother Travis Ford on the Stags' roster this season. Trevor finished third all-time in Webster Thomas history with 239 career points (164 goals, 75 assists). As a senior, he earned Offensive Player of the Year laurels from Sports Five, a First Team All-Monroe County distinction on the attack. He was also recognized on the Democrat & Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Team and was invited to play in the prestigious US Lacrosse Senior All-Star Game. Throughout his career, Ford was a three-time All-Monroe County attackman. A High Honors student and member of the Spanish Honor Society, Ford will join the Dolan School of Business in the fall.
 
Alexander Hagerup (Washington, D.C.) suited up as a defensemen for The Landon School, a perennial powerhouse in Bethesda, Maryland. The Bears were tabbed as Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse co-National Champions in 2017 to cap an undefeated 21-0 campaign. Hagerup was also an all-conference performer on the gridiron, captaining Landon Football to an Interstate Athletic Conference Championship in his senior season. An Honor Roll student throughout his scholastic career, Hagerup will join the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield.
 
A two-time state champion at Victor Central High School, Connor Keenan (Victor, N.Y.) was a Daily Messenger All-Star and all-league performer in the midfield. Keenan was also a champion in the classroom, earning a state title with the DECA Business Club, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He will major in Finance in the Dolan School of Business.
 
One of the top faceoff men in program history at Harrison High School, Will Kirshner (Rye, N.Y.) set a school record with a .758 (172-for-230) showing on the draw this past spring. Kirshner also set a Harrison record with 128 ground balls and totaled 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) en route to All-Section and All-League honors. A four-year varsity letterman and 2018 team captain, Kirshner was an Inside Lacrosse Recruiting Invitational All-Star and a Lohud Lacrosse Top 50 selection. He was an honors student in every quarter of his high school career.
 
Cooper Mazurczak (Duxbury, Mass.) was an LSM and defenseman at The Governor's Academy, where he earned All-ISL honors on both the lacrosse field and the gridiron. Mazurczak was also a BostonLax All-American in 2017. He was a part of several championship squads for the Governors, claiming the 2015 ISL Lacrosse Championship as well as the 2014 New England Football Championship and both the 2014 and 2015 ISL Football titles. The honors student will major in Economics at Fairfield.
 
A two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American out of Pleasantville High School, Brian Reda (Pleasantville, N.Y.) had a historic high school career on attack. He ranks first in New York Section 1 history with 278 career goals, and his 398 career points are second all-time in Section 1. Reda is also Pleasantville's all-time leader in points, goals and assists (120). He capped his career as The Journal News co-Player of the Year in 2018 alongside his teammate and classmate Declan McDermott (Georgetown). A four-year honor roll student, Reda will major in Finance at the Dolan School of Business. His older sister Meghan Reda '15 was a two-time First Team All-MAAC defender for Fairfield Women's Lacrosse and a co-captain of the Stags' 2015 MAAC Championship team.
 
Matthew Russo (Smithtown, N.Y.) was an All-County and All-Division midfielder at Smithtown East High School. He was a member of the 2015 Suffolk County Championship squad and was tabbed as the Bulls' offensive MVP as a senior in 2018. Russo was lauded academically as a four-year New York State Scholar-Athlete and was inducted into the Spanish Honor Society. Smithtown East tabbed him as a White Letter Award winner for his academic success. Russo will enter the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield.
 
Under Armour All-American Sean Sweeney (Chester Springs, Pa.) will join the Fairfield defense after four varsity seasons at Downingtown East High School. Sweeney, who was a team captain in his senior season, was also an FLG All-Star and Philly Showcase All-Star. He is a Dean's List student, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and received the Principal's Award for exemplary character and performance; Sweeney will study in the Dolan School of Business.
 
Jack Trelo (Naperville, Ill.) was a midfielder at Neuqua Valley High School, earning All-Conference and All-State honors. He will major in Finance at the Dolan School of Business.
 
A four-year varsity letterman at Garden City High School, Tyler Wuchte (Garden City, N.Y.) earned three All-County selections in his career. As a senior, he also added Second Team All-Long Island recognition to his résumé. Wuchte was an honors student in all four years of his high school career and will join the Dolan School of Business this fall.
 
In addition to the 15 freshmen joining the Stags this season, Jack Kornutik (Fairfield, Conn.) comes to Fairfield as a sophomore after playing in 11 games on defense at Manhattan College last spring. The Fairfield Prep graduate was a CHSCA First Team All-State and First Team All-SCC honoree for the Jesuits in his senior campaign of 2017. Kornutik will major in Finance at the Dolan School of Business.
