HAMDEN, Conn. – Fairfield Men's Tennis had a strong showing at the Quinnipiac Invitational this past weekend in their second invitational of their season thus far.
Tyler Shibles began the day with a win in the opening round of A Singles Competition against Hank Hill of UConn by a score of (6-4, 6-1). He moved on to the round of 16 where he defeated Noah Lilienthal of Wesleyan (6-1, 1-6, 12-10). Shibles fought hard in the quarterfinals but ultimately fell to Lars Schouten of Marist (6-4, 6-2). Schouten would go on to win the A Singles draw.
Lewis Edwards picked up a win in the opening round of A Singles Competition as well as he defeated Finn Kemper of Fordham (6-4, 6-1). He then was defeated in the round of 16 by Peter Anker of Wesleyan (6-4, 6-1).
Allan Magid also tallied a win in a B Singles Competition consolation match defeating Jofre Segarra of Fordham (8-5).
In A Doubles Competition,
Lewis Edwards and
Tyler Shibles defeated Alex Makatsaria and Lutwin de Macar of Fordham in the first round (6-4). They were then defeated in the quarterfinals by Piotr Sowinski and Lars Schouten of Marist (6-3).
"It's been a tough start to the year with half the team missing the first couple tournaments with injuries" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "The guys that are playing are starting to get match tough which is nice to see. We should be getting some guys back soon which will help. Tyler had a couple great wins before falling the eventual champion."
The Stags will begin MAAC play against Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. on October 9 at 2 P.M.
