Oliphant and Horn Combine to Shutout Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Eli Oliphant started the game throwing six dominant innings and Peter Horn finished the deal with three shutout frames as the duo combined to throw a three-hit shutout against Savannah State, as the Fairfield University Baseball team was victorious 6-0. Offensively, Drew Blake broke the game open with a three-run home run in the eighth inning.

Oliphant allowed just a fourth inning leadoff double in his six inning performance, the longest outing of his career. He started the contest by retiring the first seven batters, before allowing his first of two walks in the contest. He would post a career-high with five strikeouts.

Fairfield (3-8) would get on the board first, posting a two spot in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Kevin Radziewicz and Blake.

The Fairfield bats would go quiet for the next six innings, recording just two second inning hits during that span. That would change in the eighth when Jack Gethings led off the frame with a walk and Radziewicz was hit by a pitch. Blake would follow with his team-leading third home run of the spring.

Fairfield would cap their scoring in the final frame as Radziewicz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.

Horn would complete the final three innings for his second career save. Horn allowed a single in the seventh and the eighth inning before hurling a perfect ninth.

Tim Zeng scored two of Fairfield's run and also tied Blake for the team lead with two hits. Zeng is now tied with Drew Arciuolo for the team lead with nine runs scored.

The Stags will look to keep the momentum when they travel to Bethune-Cookman, a team that reached the finals of the NCAA Gainesville Region last season. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
