FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield women's swimming and diving took down Providence by a score of 197-103 this afternoon as they improved to 2-1 on the season while the men were fought hard but ultimately fell by a score of 62-197. 
 
On the women's side, freshman Madelynn Mowad picked up the first-place finish and broke the program record in the 200 Meter IM with a final time of 2:27.14 surpassing Margaret Osmulski who set the previous record in 2010 with a time of 2:27.51. 
 
In the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay, Samantha D'Alessandro, Sarah Herbold, Kelly Cordes, and Maria Nitti finished in first place with a program record time of 4:01.64 besting the previous record of 4:04.19 set in 2010.  Cordes, Victoria Krivitsky, Morgan Hansen, and Nitti also took first place in the 200 Meter Medley Relay with a final time of 2:03.09. 
 
Shannon Feeley (9:26.87) and Delaney Walsh (9:39.02) went one-two in the 800 Meter Freestyle while Kathleen Duong won the 200 Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:10.46.  Sarah Herbold also finished third on the 200 Meter Freestyle.  Kelly Cordes picked up two wins on the day with one in the 100 Meter Backstroke (1:08.36) and the other coming in the 400 Meter Freestyle (4:36.79).  Colleen Young had a great day with wins in the 100 Meter Breaststroke (1:16.23) and the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:42.51) and came in second in the 200 Meter IM.  Morgan Hansen also finished with two wins on the day in the 200 Meter Butterfly (2:24.70) and the 100 Meter Butterfly (1:05.61).  Maria Nitti came in first place in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a final time of 27.05 and finished first in the 100 Meter Freestyle clocking in at 59.80.  Victoria Krivitsky finished second in both the 100 and 200 Meter Breaststroke while Rachel Landry picked up a second place finish in the 400 Meter Freestyle.  Shannon McDade also came in second in the 100 Meter Butterfly. 
 
Erin Wind had a great day diving with a first-place finish in the 1 Meter Diving with a score of 200.33.  She also came in second in the 3 Meter Diving with a final score of 201.30. 
 
For the men, Patrick Boyle took home a first-place finish in the 800 Meter Freestyle with a final time of 8:40.67.  He also finished second in the 400 Meter Freestyle.  Peter Gori finished third in the 200 Meter Freestyle and the 100 Meter Freestyle.  Peter Sloan and Harrison McGovern came in second and third place respectively in the 100 Meter Breaststroke. Sloan also finished third in the 200 Meter Breaststroke and the 200 Meter IM.  Timothy Cusack-McPartlin finished third in the 200 Meter Backstroke as well as second in the 200 Meter IM.  Christopher Ganio took home a second-place finish in the 100 Meter Butterfly. 
 
Thomas Willemse, Patrick Boyle, Timothy Cusack-McPartlin, and Peter Gori also finished second in the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay. 
 
"I am really pleased with the way the team performed today" said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. "We've been doing a tremendous amount of work in the pool and in the weight room and we're starting to really see it pay off.  This group is starting to come together and really push each other each day, it was great to see some new records and we're excited for the next two weeks with top competition"
 
The Stags will return to action on Friday, November 9 as they travel to New York to take on Fordham at 5 P.M.  They will then return home to the RecPlex Pool to host Loyola Maryland on Saturday, November 10 at 1 P.M.
