FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men's and women's swimming and diving both fell to Loyola Maryland today at the RecPlex pool. The men dropped the meet by a score of 81-193 while the women fought for every point but were edged by a score of 144-154.
On the women's side,
Kelly Cordes,
Victoria Krivitsky,
Morgan Hansen, and
Maria Nitti finished in first-place in the 200 Meter Medley Relay with a final time of 2:00.88 breaking the previous program record of 2:01.73 which the same group set last season.
Kathleen Duong,
Sara Ostensen, Nitti, and Cordes also set a new program record in their 800 Meter Freestyle Relay first-place finish with a final time of 8:44.67 surpassing the previous record of 8:50.16 set last year by
Rachel Landry, Cordes, Nitti and Ostensen.
Sara Ostensen also set a new program record in the 800 Meter Freestyle with her split in the relay with a final time of 9:09.23.
Ostensen would also finish in first place in the 1500 Meter Freestyle with a record-breaking time of 17:26.27 which surpassed the previous record of 17:44.82 set by Brittany Hunter in 2004. Ostensen also finished in second place in the 400 Meter IM and the 200 Meter Butterfly.
Maria Nitti set a new program record in her first-place finish in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 26.95 surpassing the previous record of 26.96 set by Michelle Yoshida in 2012. Nitti would also finish second in the 100 Meter Freestyle (59.55).
Colleen Young finished with a record-breaking time of 1:14.84 in the 100 Meter Breaststroke beating out her teammate
Victoria Krivitsky's time of 1:15.06 that she set last season. Young also finished in second place in the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:39.79).
Kelly Cordes finished in first place in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:09.11) and third in the 400 Meter Freestyle.
Shannon Feeley picked up a first-place finish in the 400 Meter Freestyle (4:33.03) and finished second in the 1500 Meter Freestyle (17:34.60). She also finished third in the 400 Meter IM.
Morgan Hansen finished in second in the 100 Meter Butterfly (1:05.14) while
Kathleen Duong placed second in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:10.23).
Victoria Krivitsky took home a third-place finish in the 100 Meter Breaststroke while
Emily Vlass finished third in the 200 Meter Breaststroke.
Samantha D'Alessandro finished third in the 100 Meter Freestyle and the 50 Meter Freestyle as well.
Caitlin Campbell finished in first place in both the 1 Meter Diving and the 3 Meter Diving with final scores of 179.70 and 190.13 respectively.
On the men's side,
Patrick Boyle broke the program record with his second-place finish in the 1500 Meter Freestyle with a final time of 16:33.27 surpassing the previous record of 17:02.47 set last season by
Phillip Zyskowski. Boyle also finished first in the 400 Meter IM clocking in at 4:50.24.
Timothy Cusack-McPartlin placed second in the 400 Meter IM as well and finished third in the 1500 Meter Freestyle.
Peter Gori came in third in the 200 Meter Freestyle while
Peter Sloan placed third in the 200 Meter Breaststroke.
Thomas Willemse,
Jack Benavides, Gori, and Boyle finished in first place in the 800 Meter Freestyle Relay with a final time of 8:19.61.
Lukas Stanton picked up two first place finishes in the 1 Meter Diving (228.45) and the 3 Meter Diving (198.30).
"Our student athletes made great adjustment from yesterday's meet to today" said Head Coach
Anthony Bruno. "Many team members, men and women had season best times and we're positioning ourselves well for our opponent next week and our mid-year meet at the end of the month."
The Stags will return to action on Saturday, November 17 at 1 P.M. as they host a MAAC rival, the Marist Red Foxes at the RecPlex Pool.
