CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Fairfield men's and women's swimming had a strong showing in the New England Catholic Invitational (NECI) at Boston College this weekend as the women finished third with 587.5 points and the men placed fourth overall with 252.
On the women's side,
Sara Ostensen took home the first-place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a NECI record time of 10:37.29 beating the previous record of 10:40.93. Ostensen also finished second in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:09.47) and third in the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:10.54).
Sarah Herbold won the 500 Yard Freestyle with another invite record breaking time of 5:09.16 eclipsing the old NECI record of 5:09.24. Herbold also finished sixth in the 200 Yard Freestyle and eighth in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Alzbeta Andrikova and
Victoria Krivitsky took fourth and fifth place respectively in the 200 Yard Breaststroke while
Colleen Young came in ninth.
Emily Vlass finished sixth in the 200 Yard Breaststroke and tied for eighth place in the 400 Yard IM with her teammate
Madelynn Mowad as both posted a time of 4:51.71. Mowad also placed eighth in the 200 Yard IM (2:14.76). Andrikova and Krivitsky again went four and five respectively in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Maria Nitti finished in fifth place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.82 and placed eighth in the 200 Yard Freestyle and seventh in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Kathleen Duong also placed ninth in the 200 Yard Freestyle.
Morgan Hansen finished in tenth place in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
Haleigh McLaughlin also picked up a seventh-place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay,
Maria Nitti,
Samantha D'Alessandro,
Emily Holman, and
Sara Ostensen placed fifth with a time of 1:40.71.
Kelly Cordes,
Colleen Young,
Morgan Hansen, and
Sarah Herbold placed sixth in the 400 Yard Medley Relay (4:07.61) while Cordes, Young, Hansen, and Nitti also finished fifth in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:52.84). Herbold,
Madelynn Mowad, D'Alessandro, and Ostensen finished out the relays placing fifth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:43.07).
Erin Wind finished fourth in the 3 Meter Diving with a score of 194.70 and finished in sixth place in the 1 Meter Diving (183.75).
Caitlin Campbell also finished eighth in the 1 Meter Diving with a score of 166.35.
For the men, freshman
Patrick Boyle finished in first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 9:55.68 which was the seventh best time for this event in Fairfield history. Boyle also finished seventh in the 500 Yard Freestyle and in the 400 Yard IM.
Peter Gori finished tenth in the 200 Yard Freestyle while
Jack Benavides picked up an eighth-place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and a tenth place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.
In the 400 Yard Medley Relay,
Thomas Willemse,
Jack Benavides,
Patrick Boyle, and
Peter Gori finished tenth with a time of 3:46.07. Willemse, Benavides, Boyle, and Gori also finished in fifth place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a final time of 3:25.48.
Lukas Stanton took home a second-place finish in the 3 Meter Diving and the 1 Meter Diving with a final score of 195.95 in the 3 Meter and a 213.25 in the 1 Meter.
"It was a strong weekend for the Stags" said Head Coach
Anthony Bruno. "We saw many team members ahead of where they were at this point last year. We love racing programs like Boston College. It helps us prepare for our conference opponents and what we'll be facing at the end of the season. We're looking forward to the upcoming dual meets."
Both the men and the women will take on UMass in Amherst, Massachusetts in their first dual meet of the season on Saturday, October 13 at 1 P.M.
