Women’s Soccer Alum Nikki Stanton ’13 Traded to Chicago Red Stars

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Nikki 'Guti' Stanton has had many experiences during her four years as a professional soccer player, but the former Fairfield University Women's Soccer midfielder will be adding a new chapter to her career. Stanton, along with the 2017 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) MVP Sam Kerr and the 15th overall pick of the draft, was traded to the Chicago Red Stars in exchange for US National Team member Carli Lloyd, Janine Beckie, and two draft picks in a three-team blockbuster trade. Stanton had been a member of Sky Blue FC in New Jersey since 2014 after starting with their reserve team.

"I am beyond excited to be going to the Chicago Red Stars," Stanton said. "I will really miss my teammates and friends from New Jersey but I am excited for this next chapter in my soccer career."

After starting 20 of 41 games in her Sky Blue career, Stanton will join a Chicago team that finished fourth in the league's standings with 40 points during the 2017 season, earning them a spot in the semifinals. Chicago also added Kerr, who is the league's all-time leading scorer with 43 goals in five seasons.

As a Stag, Stanton was a three-time All MAAC First Team member during the 2011-13 seasons. During her final season at Fairfield, Stanton led the team with seven assists and was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast First Team. She helped the Stags to a Co-Regular Season Championship in 2012 and a MAAC Finals appearance in 2013.

"I'm really excited for this new adventure," Stanton said. "I am most for the new experience, new teammates and friends, a new coach, a new city, and some pretty cool uniforms."
