FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team shutout Hofstra 2-0 in their first game at University Field this season.
Andrea Soler and
Sam Giordano put in the two goals for the Stags.
The Stags played a tremendous game defensively as goalkeeper
Zoe Rosen did not even have to make a save to post her first career clean sheet. Hofstra only took six shots in total with none of them reaching Rosen in the cage.
The game was even for a majority of the first half as the two sides traded possession, but the Stags pushed Hofstra's defense late in the half keeping it on the opponent's side of the field. With less than three minutes remaining in the first half,
Andrea Soler took advantage of a turnover and broke through the Pride's defense launching a backhanded shot into the back of the net for the game's first point.
The Stags dominated the second half out-shooting the Pride 8-3 and had eight penalty corner attempts, one of which resulted in their second goal of the game.
Sam Giordano gave Fairfield the 2-0 advantage with a goal at the 54:01 mark assisted by
Hannah Pike and
Jaclyn Gallagher.
Fairfield outshot Hofstra, 14-6 and 8-0 in shots on goal. They also took 10 penalty corners to Hofstra's four.
Fairfield will return to action next Friday, September 8 at 4 P.M. as they host Lafayette at University Field.
