Rowing Teams Finish Day Two Of Knecht Cup

MERCER LAKE, N.J. – The Fairfield University rowing teams finished the second day of the Knecht Cup with the women's second varsity 8 reaching the third final with the men's lightweight 4 as well as the varsity 4 competing in the final as well.

The women's second varsity started the day with a fifth-place finish in its heat by crossing the finish line in 7:30.94. The heat was won by Miami (7:06.30) followed by Temple (7:10.52) and UMass (7:12.36). In the semifinal heat, Fairfield placed sixth with a time of 7:26.10 with Bucknell taking first place in 7:01.68. The time was good enough to send the crew into the third final in which it secured fifth by running the course in 7:23.66 as Villanova won the event in 7:05.53. Fairfield was represented by Shelley Wilson, Aileen Morley-McLaughlin, Colleen Sheridan, Maggie O'Donnell, Eileen Keenan, Cat Clough, Allison Sloan, Amanda McKenna, and coxswain Katie Clark

The men's lightweight 4 competed in the final today and secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 7:16.51. Rhode Island (6:52.57), Mercyhurst (6:57.55) and Fordham (6:58.85) rounded out the top three boats. The Stags crew included Liam Creegan, Greg Coppola, Richard Saganey, Seamus Obrien, coxswain Danielle Colasacco.

The men's varsity 4 ended the day with sixth place in the final by racing in 7:01.43) behind George Mason A (6:46.43), Colgate (6:50.71), and Bowdoin (6:52.67). The Stags shell included Will Quentin, Lars Erickson, John Imor, Casey Fuller, and coxswain Matt Marshall.

The men's second varsity 8 ended the day in seventh place for its heat, registering a time of 6:45.05. Virginia (6:18.95), St. Joseph's A (6:22.14) and Army West Point (6:27.79) collected first three placements in the heat. Fairfield's entry was comprised by Matt Sutter, Mark Soldatic, Liam Cree Han, Jordan Greco, Nick Greco, Charlie Riordan, John O'Neill, Herbie Marache, coxswain Matt Marshall.

The women's frosh/novice 8 resulted in a sixth-place finish in its heat behind winner Princeton LWT (7:44.58) followed by Marist (7:49.87) and Villanova (7:53.15). The Stags' boat included Sophia Dondero, Christina Maher, Sarah Van Steenbergen, Kaitlyn Sweeney, Nicole Chrysler, Erin Godrey, Mikayla Gloria, Michaela Bassett, coxswain Claudia Worotikan

The women's varsity 4 completed in the semifinals this morning and added a fifth-place run by crossing the line in 8:09.64. Temple secured the top spot in 7:47.16 while UMass (7:49.09) and Bucknell (7:50.46) were closely behind the winner. The Stags' shell was comprised by Tiffany Iannucci, Melissa Iannucci, Jackie Ozyjowski, Chloe Scherpa, and coxswain Katie Unfried.

The women's frosh/novice 4 also advanced to the semifinals after a solid Saturday, collecting a third-place finish in today's race. SMU earned the win by running the course in 8:12.16. The Stags were represented by Claire Lavelle, Mallory Burlington, Nicole Chrysler, Laura Miles, and coxswain Laura Mason.

The men's frosh/novice 4 grabbed a sixth-place run by going the distance in 8:09.54. Marist took the top spot (7:16.56) followed by Carnegie Mellon (7:35.59) and Bucknell (7:39.16). Fairfield's team included Dario Salati, Chris Lamberti, Nick Ryan, Matt Daza, coxswain Justin Elderton.

The women's third varsity 8 also competed this afternoon, collecting a fourth-place finish in its heat, behind Villanova (7:22.22), Bucknell (7:27.31) and Fordham (7:29.89).  The Stags sent Maddie Feeley, Megan Donensky, Julia Cooper, Katrina Kirchgaesser, Rachel Sansone, Julia Becker, Kerry Clarke, Lisa Foncello, and coxswain Katie Unfried into the boat.
