FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will play their first home game of the season when they welcome UConn to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday, February 15 at 3:00 p.m.
Fairfield (0-1) vs. UConn (0-0): The Stags and Huskies will meet on Wednesday for the 15th time in program history. Fairfield is 4-10 against Connecticut and has lost the last five matchups versus the in-state foe. Last season, the Stags dropped an 18-8 decision in Storrs on March 19.
Scouting the Huskies: Wednesday's contest will be the first game in 2017 for Connecticut. The team was picked to finish second in the Big East Preseason Coaches' Poll behind Florida. Juniors Cassie Ekstrom and Grace Nolan were the two selections to the Preseason All-Big East Team. Ekstrom, a defender, led the squad in 2016 with 29 caused turnovers. Nolan was the Big East Co-Attacker of the Year last season, leading the league in points per game (3.53).
Last Time Out: The Fairfield women's lacrosse team lost their season opener at Holy Cross on Saturday, February 11. The Crusaders held a three goal lead at the half, and maintained that through the second frame to secure an 11-8 victory. Scarlett Sulliman and Lily Crager led the Fairfield offense with two goals apiece, while Riley Hellstein, Brenna Connolly, Olivia Russell, and Kathleen Hulseman all had one. Senior Caleigh O'Connor got the second start of her career and made five saves in cage.
Looking Ahead: After Wednesday's matchup, Fairfield will get back on the road playing at Columbia on Wednesday, February 22 at 5:00 pm.
