POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. –- The Fairfield University women's swimming and diving team defeated Marist this afternoon handing the Red Foxes their first dual meet loss in MAAC Competition since 2009. They won by a close margin of 152.5 to 145.5 while the men fell to Marist 165-121.
The women started off the meet with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay finishing with a final time of 1:50.04.
Sara Ostensen continued the Stag's early success with a win in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:32.11. She also took home victories in the 200 Yard Butterfly clocking in at 2:10.41 and the 500 Yard Freestyle with a finals time of 5:10.32.
Sarah Herbold won three individual events on the day starting with the 200 Yard Freestyle where she finished with a time of 1:57.03. She then finished the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 54.17 to take the win. She finished off the day with a win in the 100 Yard Butterfly clocking in at 1:00.34.
Colleen Young also finished the day with two event wins in both the 200 Yard Breaststroke and the 200 Yard IM. In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, she finished with a time of 2:12.11 and clocked in at 2:24.02 in the 200 Yard IM.
After going back and forth trading victories in each event with the Red Foxes, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team made up of
Maria Nitti,
Kelly Cordes,
Donna Lam, and
Sara Ostensen sealed the overall win clocking in at 3:37.65 to take down Marist and improve to 2-0 in the MAAC Conference and 4-1 overall on the season.
The men also had a strong performance but it was not enough to garner a win.
Jordan Rahurahu and
Benjamin Kebbell each had three event wins on the day.
Rahurahu won the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:57.55 and the clocked in at 4:49.34 to win the 500 Yard Freestyle. He also was victorious in the 200 Yard IM finishing at 1:58.69.
Benjamin Kebbell tallied a win in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 53.23. He also won the 100 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Butterfly clocking in at 47.98 and 52.90 respectively.
Kebbell, Philip Zyskowski,
Kevin Brandbergh, and
Jordan Rahurahu also won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay to end the day for the Stags.
Both the women's and men's team will have a short break before returning to the pool when they take part in the ECAC Winter Championships from December 1 to December 3.
