Women's Tennis Opens Up Play in North Carolina

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team will head to North Carolina this week for matches against Gardner-Webb and UNC Greensboro. On Monday, they will head to Boiling Springs, North Carolina to face Gardner-Webb at 3:00 pm and then on Tuesday they will travel to Greensboro to take on UNC Greensboro at 2:00 pm.

 Last time out, the Stags were stopped by Yale, 7-0. The Stags did not earn a doubles point, but got tough play out of the duo of Courtney Connors and Nicole Aragones at the No. 1 spot as they fell 6-3 to Yale's Madeleine Hamilton and Tina Jiang.  In singles action, Fairfield was simply outmatched as all six spots lost in straight sets. At the No. 1 spot, Aragones fell 6-0, 6-0 to Ree Ree Li. Karen McKeough dropped 6-0, 6-1 to Sherry Li in the No. 2 spot. And Meghan Zimmer played at the No. 3 spot falling 6-0, 6-0 to Amy Yang.

 Gardner-Webb is 3-6 heading into Monday having most recently dropped their match at Campbell on Saturday, March 5, 4-3. The Bulldogs won the doubles point by getting wins at No. 1 and No. 3. In singles play, they got wins from Sandra Bolstad at the third spot and from Catherine White at the fifth spot. Bolstad was pushed to three sets, while White claimed the victory in two.

 Greensboro was riding a two match winning streak before running into conference foe Chattanooga on Saturday, falling 6-1. Their top singles player, Soumeya Anane posts a 2-5 record at the first spot this season. Masey DeMoss mainly plays the fourth position and owns a 6-3 overall record this season, tied for the most singles victories on the team. At the first doubles, Anane pairs with Amy Ellis, with the duo compiling a 4-5 mark this season.

After the trip to North Carolina, the Stags will play their first conference game of the spring at Niagara on Saturday, March 19.
