Stags Fall Short in Season-Opener

Women's Tennis Welcomes UMBC on Satruday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team will again play on back to back days this weekend. First, the Stags host UMBC at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Saturday at 3:00 pm. Then, they will match up against Yale on Sunday at 10:00 am.

Last weekend, Fairfield was downed by both Drexel and NJIT. Against NJIT at the number one doubles spot, Nicole Aragones and Courtney Connors fell 6-2. And at third doubles, Cecilia Parla and Gabriella Campos dropped a 6-1 decision. Aragones competed at the number one singles and played two tough sets falling 7-5, 6-3. McKeough dropped two sets to Rafaella Sampaio 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Parla  forced three sets against Natalija Tasovac in the six spot, 4-6, 6-0, 10-3.

The Retrievers come in at 0-5 this season. Last time out they were topped by George Washington on February 5 in a narrow 4-3 decision. Before taking on the Stags, UMBC will face Hartford on Friday night.

The Yale Bulldogs are 1-5 this season after defeating Boston University 4-3 on February 13 in their last time out. Yale will have a busy weekend hosting the University of Massachusetts on Friday before hosting the Stags on Sunday morning and LIU on Sunday afternoon.

After this weekend, Fairfield will head to warmer weather to play Gardner-Webb on Monday, March 7 in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
