FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The men's basketball team closes out its season series with Quinnipiac University on Saturday afternoon. The game tips off at 2 pm and will be broadcast on SNY.
The Bobcats started this three-game week with a pair of losses, including an 84-77 setback against Manhattan on Thursday night. Earlier in the week, the Bobcats saw a three-game winning come to an end with a 68-52 loss to Saint Peter's. That winning streak included a win over Fairfield on February 1.
Quinnipiac fell victim to Manhattan's second-half sizzling shooting as the Jaspers made 70 percent of their attempts over the final 20 minutes. Manhattan overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to the game.
The Bobcats have received strong offensive play from senior Giovanni McLean, who enters this game with a scoring average of 14.1 points per game. The guard posted a game-high as well as a personal-best 25 points in the win over Fairfield two weeks ago, his fourth 20-point game of the season. Daniel Harris is also scoring in double figures with a 10.4 scoring average, a number which is aided by his team-best 57 three-point field goals. He places ninth in the MAAC with 2.4 three pointers made per game, just ahead of McLean's 2.1 three pointers per contest. The Bobcats lead the nation in rebounding, averaging 44.5 caroms per contest. Abdulai Bundu (6.8 rpg) and Donovan Smith (6.3 rpg) are tops on the team in that category.
The Stags ended a two-game skid with an 80-70 win over Manhattan College last Sunday. Fairfield improved its home record to 9-4, the most since posting a 12-4 home slate in 2011-12. Curtis Cobb tallied a team-high 20 points in the Manhattan win, his third 20-point game over the last five contests. Matija Milin came off the bench to score a personal-best 19 points, surpassing his previous high of 13 points set against both Iona and Rider in December. Fairfield led by 16 points at the half against Manhattan, increased it to 19 points in the second half before seeing it diminish to six points late in the game.
Marcus Gilbert ranks first on the team with 17.2 points per game followed by Nelson's 15.8 scoring average. Jonathan Kasibabu, who registered 10 rebounds against Manhattan, raised his team-high rebounding average to 5.4 per game. Jerome Segura tied his career high with 11 assists, giving him 126 for the season (5.4 apg).
The Stags return home on Monday night when they host Marist College at Webster Bank Arena. Game time is 7 pm. The game will be broadcast on SNY and ESPN3.
