FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Three games set to be televised live on SportsNet New York (SNY) highlight the home broadcast schedule for Fairfield University Basketball for the upcoming 2016-17 season. Including the trio of SNY games, the Stags' men's and women's basketball teams will appear in seven home games on ESPN3 produced by the Fairfield University Media Center as well as five additional contests on the ESPN family of networks as a part of the MAAC Basketball broadcast package.
The regular season begins for both the men's and women's teams live on ESPN3 as Sacred Heart visits Webster Bank Arena for a doubleheader on Nov. 11. Joe Frager's women's team hosts the Pioneers at 5 p.m. followed by Sydney Johnson's men's team taking the court against their crosstown rival at 7 p.m.
The Stags' first appearance on SNY this season comes on Dec. 6 when men's basketball hosts perennial Patriot League contender Bucknell. Fairfield topped the Bison, 101-91, last season in Lewisburg.
As the calendar turns to January, the MAAC broadcast slate kicks in with men's basketball traveling to Manhattan on Jan. 5 for a game set to air live on ESPN3. The Stags and Jaspers have split the season series in each of the last three campaigns as Fairfield looks to buck the recent trend that has seen the home team win the last seven regular season meetings between the two clubs.
Ten days later on Jan. 15, the Stags are back on SNY for a Sunday afternoon visit from Siena. Coach Johnson guided Fairfield to a split with the Saints last season, upending Siena on Senior Day at Webster Bank Arena by a count of 76-69.
Both the men's and women's programs will be on display on Feb. 2 for a MAAC-produced ESPN3 doubleheader from Webster Bank Arena. The women's squad host in-state foe Quinnipiac followed by the men's team challenging Niagara. The women were swept by Quinnipiac – the eventual regular season champion of the MAAC – last season while the men took both ends of the home-and-home series with the Purple Eagles.
For the first time ever, Fairfield basketball will appear on ESPN3 live from Alumni Hall. On Feb. 13, the men's basketball team is on campus for MAAC action against Rider and, three days later on Feb. 16, the women take to George Bisacca Court to host Marist.
Men's basketball makes the short trip to Quinnipiac on Feb. 17 for a nationally-televised contest as the Stags clash with the host Bobcats on ESPNU. The road team has come away with the win in the last five meetings between the in-state MAAC teams, including overtime triumphs for the Stags at TD Bank Sports Center in each of the last two seasons.
The final regular season appearance for the women on ESPN3 comes in New Rochelle, N.Y. on Feb. 19 as the Stags visit the defending MAAC Champion Iona Gaels. Iona won both meetings last season, returning the favor after Fairfield swept the home-and-home series in 2014-15.
Senior Day for men's basketball will air live on SNY as the Stags host the preseason favorite in the MAAC, the Monmouth Hawks. Monmouth won both encounters with Fairfield and ousted the Stags in the MAAC Championship Semifinals as a part of their much publicized 2015-16 campaign.
All of Fairfield's remaining home men's and women's basketball games, including the Nov. 4 men's basketball exhibition against Bridgeport, are scheduled to be streamed live on FairfieldStags.TV. Additional home contests may be added to the Stags' ESPN3 lineup as well as ESPN3 broadcasts produced by Fairfield's opponents.
Thirteen games from the 2017 MAAC Championship will air on the ESPN family of networks. The men's first round, quarterfinals and semifinals will appear on ESPN3 with the final to air on either ESPN or ESPN2. Both women's semifinals will be on ESPN3 with a women's championship game slated for ESPNU.
