Baseball Announces Alumni and Family Weekend Events

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – All of the historic success the Fairfield University baseball team has experienced over the last year will be on full display for all to see. The program has announced the events that will be held on Saturday during Alumni and Family weekend, including Alumni Diamond and locker room dedications, as well as their MAAC Championship ring ceremony and Alumni game.

“I think it's a great tribute to the past players that have built the foundation of our success,” Head Coach Bill Currier said. “The alumni, the donors, the families, the parents, I think it's a great tribute to bring them all together and see the fruits of their labor.”

The festivities will begin with the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the team's newly renovated locker room at 12:30pm. The new look locker room includes a Stag logo illuminated over the center of the room and an entrance which features artwork dedicated to the Fairfield baseball program. Several of the amenities include new wooden lockers, showers and bathroom area, built-in speakers, and a flat screen television.

Following the blessing of the locker room, the group will get to experience another new staple of the Fairfield baseball program: the newly renovated Alumni Diamond. The public will have the chance to view the new bleachers, which include red chair back seats, expanded dugouts, press box, and new fencing. Fairfield University President Rev. Jeffrey von Arx, S.J., will also bless the new home of the Stags.

After alumni and families view the new success of the facilities, they will have the chance to reflect on last year's historic season with the Stags receiving their MAAC Championship rings. The 2016 squad became the first team in program history to reach the NCAA tournament after winning the first MAAC tournament title in Fairfield baseball history.

The day will conclude with the annual Alumni game where the past players will have the chance to relive their playing days. The current players will also have the chance to talk to the alumni that have had a hand in bringing the program to this new historic step.
