HAMDEN, Conn. – Nicole Aragones reached the final match of the 'A' singles consolation bracket to highlight a weekend of action for the Fairfield University women's tennis team at the Quinnipiac Invitational. The Stags were competing in their second individual tournament of the fall campaign.
Aragones won a pair of matches in the consolation bracket. The sophomore defeated Providence's Nicole Cyterski, 8-4, in the quarterfinal round then upended Estelle Wong of Fordham, 8-5, to reach the finals. The championship match went to Luize Strike of Seton Hall, who clipped Aragones by a score of 8-5.
Meghan Zimmer also picked up a victory for the Stags, defeating Elizaveta Sadovnikova of Rhode Island, 8-5, in the quarterfinals of the 'B' singles consolation bracket. Zimmer was then topped by Hannah Drayton of Fordham – the eventual winner of the draw – by a score of 8-4 in the semifinals.
Up next for the Stags is the first dual of the fall with a trip to Hartford on Tuesday, Sept. 29. That matchup with the Hawks will be Fairfield's final tune-up before Rider visits the Walsh Athletic Center courts on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for the lone MAAC contest of the fall.
