FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team hosts UC Davis on Friday, September 11 at 4:00 pm.
Fairfield (1-2) vs. UC Davis (2-3): The Stags are 1-0 all-time against the Aggies. The first matchup between the two sides was last season in Davis, California where Fairfield came out with a 2-1 victory.
A Look at the Aggies: UC Davis is 2-3 this season and is led offensively by two upperclassmen in senior midfielder Jamie Garcia and junior forward Danielle Koehne. Garcia has two goals on the season while Koehne has one, each have started every game. In cage is junior Erica Cohen who has recorded 24 saves this season and posts a .706 goals against average. In a matchup against No. 12 Louisville on September 6, the junior recorded 11 saves. The Aggies will play Holy Cross on Thursday before heading to Fairfield on Friday.

Last Weekend: Fairfield played two nationally ranked teams this past weekend in Delaware and Michigan. On Friday against Delaware, the Stags were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead just 89 seconds into the game. But unfortunately that would be there only score of the day as they would fall 4-1 at the hands of the No. 18 Blue Hens.
On Sunday, they matched up against the No. 16 Wolverines who shutout the Stags for the first time this season. The defense held strong for 29 minutes before forward Courtney Enge was able to capitalize off a penalty corner to put the Wolverines up 1-0 heading into the half. Michigan would add three more scores in the second half for a 4-0 victory. In the loss, Fairfield was held to just eight total shots. Julie de Paeuw and Erin Buckley each had three total shots and one shot on goal for the Stags. In cage, Caitlin Bennett faced 12 shots and made four saves.
National Notice: Junior forward Ann Burgoyne sits tied for sixth in the nation with 1.33 goals per game and tied for 12th with 2.67 points per game. Burgoyne has four goals on the season thus far and leads the team in that category. Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Bennett also finds her name among the nation's best, tied for 13th with 7.00 saves per game. Bennett has started the last two games for the Stags recording 14 saves overall.
Looking Ahead: Next weekend, the Stags head to Philadelphia to face off against Drexel on Friday and Villanova on Sunday.
