NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's golf team completed action at the Til Duty Is Done Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, finishing the 36-hole event in 13th place. The Stags were paced by Eric Austin's 76 in the final round and 159 for the weekend at the Lake of Isles North Course in North Stonington.
The Stags' quintet carded a cumulative 645 over the two-day affair. All five Stags were within eight strokes of each other with Alex Ferrante (80-81-161), Steve Burak (84-76-162), Alex Taylor (84-79-163) and Peter Repetto (86-81-167) also competing for Fairfield.
Fairfield's score placed them two strokes ahead of MAAC foe Siena. Saint Peter's finished third overall and tops among MAAC teams with a 605, and Canisius landed in 12th place at 633. The conference's top individual performer was Brian Grubbs, who led Saint Peter's with a 150.
The tournament championship went to Hartford, which beat the field by 13 strokes with a 587. The Hawks were led by individual winner Will Betts, who was the lone golfer under par in the 89-man field with a two-day total of 138 (-6).
The Stags will play at a pair of one-day events in New Jersey this week to conclude the regular season. The 2015 MAAC Championship is slated for April 24-26 at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
