Women's Tennis Tops Marist, 4-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team topped Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Marist, 4-3, on Saturday evening at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

The Stags came back to post victories at No. 2 and No. 4-6 singles after losing the doubles point.  

At No. 1 doubles, Allison Radde and Karen McKeough fell to Marist's Karly Pang and Claire Schmitz, 8-4, while the Fairfield duo of Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann fell to the Red Foxes' Callie Morlock and Sabrina Tahir, 8-3, in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 slot, Helen Abbot and Kaila Nelson posted an 8-4 victory over Marist's Katie Seitz and Nikki Rohan.

At No. 1 singles, Radde fell to Pang, 6-4, 7-5, while freshman Stuhlmann defeated the Red Foxes' Melissa Carlay, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 singles was classmate Aragones who was edged by a count of 6-3, 6-0, by Schmitz. Fairfield was able to tie the match at 3-3, after Abbot downed Morlock 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 4 slot and Erika Nannery won by retirement at No. 6. Nelson clinched the final point for the Stags when she clipped Rohan by a count of 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 in the No. 5 slot, keeping Fairfield undefeated in MAAC play.

Fairfield (4-3; 3-0 MAAC) will be back in action on Sunday, March 29 when the Stags take on Yale at 3:00 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
