Tyler Behring Named CAA Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Tyler Behring of the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week. The Stags' goalkeeper posted a 3.56 goals-against average with a .759 save percentage in two Fairfield victories this past week.

In total, Behring turned away 22 shots while ceding just seven goals in the first two starts of his collegiate career. His effort led the Stags to a road win at Massachusetts-Lowell on Tuesday and a Saturday victory over No. 20 Villanova on Dedication Day at Rafferty Stadium.

Against the River Hawks, Behring played all but the final two minutes of the contest. He made six saves while allowing three goals and collected a career-high seven ground balls.

In Saturday's win over the nationally-ranked Wildcats, Behring made a career-best 16 saves while limiting Villanova to just four goals. The Wildcats, who entered the contest averaging 10.29 goals per outing, were kept off the board for more than 40 minutes by Behring and the Stags defense – a stretch that included the entirety of the second and third quarters.

Behring is the second goalkeeper to win CAA Player of the Week honors this season and is the first Stag to ever win the award. Previously this spring, freshman Will Fox was named CAA Rookie of the Week in consecutive weeks – the first two weekly awards of any kind in Fairfield's first year as a CAA Lacrosse member.

Fairfield (5-4) will carry a three-game winning streak into CAA action as the Stags open their inaugural Association slate on Saturday, March 28 at defending champion Drexel at 4 p.m. The Stags will also play at Massachusetts on Saturday, April 4 before beginning a three-game, regular-season-ending homestand with a visit from Towson on Saturday, April 11.
