Road Slate Continues for Men's Lacrosse at Stony Brook

Riding a two-game winning streak, the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team resumes its 2015 road slate with a trip to Stony Brook. The Stags and Seawolves are set for a noon faceoff from LaValle Stadium on Long Island on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Fairfield's Last Time Out: Charlie Schnider racked up six points and Colin McLinden distributed four assists to lead the Stags past Manhattan, 15-4, on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Rafferty Stadium. TJ Neubauer added a hat trick for the Stags in the non-conference victory.

Schnider paced Fairfield with five goals. Neubauer notched an assist to go along with his trio of goals, and Tristan Sperry scored two goals and handed out three assists. Rounding out the Stags' offense were goals from Joe Rodrigues, Dave Fleming, Cameron Parker, Drew Federico and Drew Murray. Parker's tally was the first of his collegiate career.

In the midfield, Neubauer and Louis DiGiacomo each scooped up five ground balls. DiGiacomo was also a force in the faceoff 'X' with 11 wins on 15 attempts. Will Fox added a 4-for-5 day in the 'X'.

Andrew Eidenshink caused three turnovers with three ground balls in the defensive zone, while Brad Nordstrom made four saves en route to victory. Tyler Behring and Daniel Costa also both saw time between the posts in relief of the freshman netminder.

Will Fox - CAA Rookie of the Week: After winning 16-of-21 faceoffs in a pair of wins for the Stags, freshman Will Fox has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. He also picked up 10 ground balls as the Stags earned victories over Providence and Manhattan.

Fox posted a .762 winning percentage at the 'X' for the week at 16-of-21. In the 10-6 victory at Providence, Fox won 12 of his 16 attempts, including five during the Stags' 6-0 spurt in the third quarter that broke a 4-4 tie. He also collected six ground balls against the Friars. Fox capped his week with a 4-of-5 showing on faceoffs to go along with four ground balls in a 15-4 triumph over visiting Manhattan at Rafferty Stadium.

For the season, Fox currently leads the CAA and ranks ninth in the nation at 21-of-30 (.700) at the 'X'. He also slots fifth in the CAA with an average of 4.0 ground balls per game. He is the first CAA Lacrosse weekly award winner in Fairfield men's lacrosse history.

The Matchup: The Stags will challenge Stony Brook for the fifth time in program history on Saturday. Fairfield is 3-1 all-time against the Seawolves and has won the last three meetings, including a 15-13 home triumph in 2014. The four previous encounters in the series have been decided by a total of just eight goals, and the margin of victory has never been greater than three tallies.

Scouting Stony Brook: Stony Brook enters its clash with the Stags at 2-1 overall. The Seawolves, who went 6-10 last spring, own convincing home wins over Manhattan and NJIT in 2015 in addition to a 13-8 loss at St. John's.

Brody Eastwood has scored a team-leading 9 goals for the Seawolves, while Challen Rogers (7g, 5a) and Matt Schultz (6g, 6a) share the team high with 12 points apiece. A trio of goalkeepers have seen action for Stony Brook, with Hayden Johnstone starting all three contests en route to a 5.92 goals-against average and .600 save percentage in 81:07 of work. Brandon Maciejewski (8.08 GAA) has spent 66:50 between the posts, and Patrick Fleming has played a total of 32:03 in goal.

Veteran head coach Jim Nagle is in his fourth year at Stony Brook following a 10-year stay at Colgate and seven seasons at Oneonta State. Nagle is 22-31 (.415) at the helm of the Seawolves and 173-134 (.564) in his collegiate head coaching career.

On the Road, But Close to Home: The Stags will make their shortest road trip of the spring next Saturday, March 7, with a trip to Yale. The 2-0 Bulldogs, currently ranked as high as No. 7 in the national polls, will host Bryant (Feb. 28) and travel to St. John's (March 3) prior to the in-state clash at Reese Stadium.

Fairfield will also visit Bucknell before returning to the turf of Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, March 14 to host Colgate. Tickets for the meeting with the Raiders and all five of the Stags' remaining 2015 home contests are available at FairfieldStags.com/tix.
