Men's Swimming & Diving Wraps Up Action at MAACs

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University men's swimming & diving team wrapped up action at the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship all day and evening at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center. The Stags came in ninth place, tallying a total 207 points.

In the 1650y freestyle, junior Andrew Robinson clocked a 16:58.14 to finish 19th overall. Rookie Jameson Duncan followed next with a personal best 17:17.16. Nick Cannone placed 21st overall with a 17:25.94 while Pat Orkins clocked a 17:28.24 in the event.

Junior Connor Daly clocked a 1:52.66 to place sixth overall in the A-Final of the 200y butterfly event.

 In the 200y backstroke event, Collin Hayes recorded a 1:59.94 to place eighth overall in the B-Final.

In the B-Final of the 100y freestyle, Scott McGinty clocked a personal best 47.10 to finish fourth overall.

In the 1-meter diving event, sophomore Daniel Pires was the top-finisher for Fairfield. Pires posted a 245.20 to finish sixth overall in the A-Final. Senior Evan Barr placed 10th in the B-Final, with a score of 236.95 while classmate Will Sullivan followed in 12th with a 208.75.

The men's 400y freestyle relay of McGinty, Daly, Andrew Tavcar, and Jay Cook clocked a 3:10.77 to finish ninth overall.

The Stags will compete in one final event for the 2014-15 campaign. Fairfield will compete in the ECAC Championships on Friday, February 27-Sunday, March 1.

Saturday's Preliminaries

Men's 200y Back: Rookie Collin Hayes posted an ECAC qualifying 1:59.62 to place 16th overall and qualify for the B-Final in the event. Classmate Kyle Lally clocked in next with a 1:59.71, for a personal best.  

Men's 100y Free: Four Stags posted personal best times. Sophomore Scott McGinty posted an ECAC qualifying time of 47.26 seconds to place 14th overall and qualify for the B-Final of the event. Senior Jay Cook followed next at 47.87 while Andrew Tavcar clocked a personal best 49.17 seconds, Rookie Michael Capodanno recorded a 50.03, for a personal best, while Robert Hansen clocked his own personal best 52.16 in the event.

Men's 200y Breast: Senior Kevin Kett clocked in at 2:18.87 to finish 21st overall.

Men's 200y Fly: Junior Connor Daly posted an ECAC qualifying 1:53.00 to place seventh overall and qualify for the A-Final. Rookie Kyle Lally posted a 2:00.39 time for a personal best.

Men's 1-Meter Diving: Three out of four Stags posted ECAC qualifying scores. Sophomore Daniel Pires was the top-finisher for Fairfield, posted a 233.10 to qualify for the A-Final in the event. Next was senior Evan Barr, whose 224.90 placed him ninth overall, qualifying him for the B-Final. Joining Barr in the B-Final is Will Sullivan who recorded a 201.10 while rookie Benjamin Martin made a 139.10 mark in the event.
