Burgoyne and de Paeuw Named to NFHCA All-Mideast Region Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University field hockey juniors Ann Burgoyne and Julie de Paeuw were both named to the 2015 Longstreth/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Mideast Region Team. Burgoyne and de Paeuw were both integral parts of the 2015 team that won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001.

“These two players are both very deserving of this award. It is great for our program to be recognized and for these players to be recognized for all their hard work,” said Head Coach Jackie Kane.

Burgoyne earned her second consecutive NFHCA All-Mideast Region Team selection but first on the First Team. Last season she was named to the All-Mideast Region Second Team. The junior was also named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, named to the MAAC All-Championship Team, All-MAAC First Team, and MAAC All-Academic Team. She led the Stags with a single-season program-record of 40 points and matched her program-record with 19 goals during the 2015 season. The forward also led the MAAC in points, points per game (2.11), goals, and goals per game (1.00). Her 1.00 goals per game average was fourth best in the country and her 2.11 points per game ranked seventh in the nation.

De Paeuw earned her first NFHCA All-Mideast Region Second Team selection. The Belgium native transitioned to the midfield this season and it paid dividends for her and her team. She was named the 2015 MAAC Player of the Year, named to the MAAC All-Championship Team, and All-MAAC First Team. The junior was the third leading scorer on the team with 15 points off six goals and three assists. She led the team with three game winning goals this season and was tied for second in the league in that category. De Paeuw also netted the second goal in the MAAC Championship game against Quinnipiac.

Fairfield finished the season with an overall record of 9-10 including 3-3 in their first season in the MAAC. They earned the number four seed in the MAAC Tournament and defeated number one Monmouth and number two Quinnipiac en route to their first MAAC title. The team qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over 10 years and fell to Boston University in the Play-in Round, 6-1.
