FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Both Fairfield Swimming and Diving Teams kicked off the Terrier Invitational on Friday. The morning session began at 10:00 am and included preliminaries for six different events, and at 6:00 pm the teams swam the finals for 10 events.
The men and women both finished the day with 12 points for a combined total of 24, sitting them in eighth place after the first day of competition.
Capturing 10 points for the Stags was the 200y freestyle relay team of Michelle Pleban, Kelly Cordes, Kelly Mulligan, and Liz Avery. Mulligan notched two points of her own for her 14th place finish in the 200y Individual Medley clocking in at 2:10.10.
The men secured six points in the 200y freestyle relay off the Justin Touve, Andrew Tavcar, Brian Burke, and Ben Nelligan team. Then in the 10th event of the day, the 400y Medley Relay, the team of Kyle Lally, Tavcar, Connor Daly, and Touve earned Fairfield four more points.
Touve swam in the 500y freestyle Bonus Final to finish 22nd overall with a personal best time of 4:43.48.
Daly competed in the 200y Individual Medley Bonus Final to finish 20th overall after finishing in 1:55.15.
Preliminaries:
500y Freestyle- Cordes, Danielle Latino and Maggie O'Donnell all finished with personal bests (5:11.18, 5:28.53, and 5:39.52).
Andrew Robinson clocked in at 4:52.65, followed by Jameson Duncan (4:56.26), Christopher Capparis (4:57.87), Pat Orkins (5:12.89), and Nick Delfico (5:14.02).
200y Individual Medley- Grace Goddard, Emily Vlass, Meghan Guinee, and Gabrielle Angresano all posted personal bests (2:14.31, 2:15.48, 2:20.18, and 2:22.82).
Touve posted a personal best of 1:59.99 and Evan Gorman clocked in at 2:04.46.
50y Freestyle- Avery was the top finisher for the Fairfield women posting a 25.25 while Pleban was close behind matching her personal best of 25.46.
Nelligan came in at 22.40 for a new personal best, Burke was next with a 22.45, and Edmund Falcigno finished with a personal best of 23.04.
Fairfield is back in the pool on Saturday for Day Two of the Terrier Invitational with preliminaries beginning and 10:00 am. Just as the first day's schedule, the finals will be held at 6:00 pm as the Stags try to climb up the standings.
