Swimming and Diving Battles Crusaders On Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will head to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on the Holy Cross Crusaders. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 31. 

Last weekend, both teams fell to Fordham but topped Monmouth on Saturday.

The highlight of the weekend was Daniel Pires who earned four top place finishes after competing in the Blue Devil Diving Invitational on Sunday as well. His highest scores on the weekend were 263.02 in the 1-meter and 312.30 in the 3-meter dive.

Holy Cross's men's team has competed three times this season against Iona, Colgate, and at the New England Catholic Invitational. The women's team has competed four times as they hosted Siena on October 21 as the lone addition to their schedule.

Freshman Steve Tierney and sophomore Jake Sbarbaro were the top perfomers against Colgate as they both finished with two individual victories. Tierney finished first in both in the 100y and 200y freestyles posting times of 48.23 and 1:46.5. While Sbarbaro claimed victories in the 200y butterfly and 200y IM with times of 1:57.23 and 1:59.50.

For the women, it was sophomore Nina Sparre and freshman Casey Sherman who headlined for the Crusaders. Sparre posted a victory in the 200y IM with a time of 2:19.20. Sherman scored highest in both of the diving events with a 267.97 in the 1-meter and a 260.54 in the 3-meter dive.

After this weekend, the Fairfield teams will travel to Marist on Friday, November 6.
