Daly Breaks Program Record As Men's Swimming & Diving Falls To NJIT

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's swimming & diving team fell to NJIT this afternoon at the RecPlex Pool for their last home meet of the year. The men were edged 132-110 on Senior Day.

Junior Connor Daly posted three individual victories and broke a program record. Daly captured the 200m IM with a time of 2:10.23, breaking his own previous program record of 2:11.34 previously set on February 1, 2014. In the 100m butterfly, he clocked a 58.41 to finish first. Daly also captured the 100m breaststroke with a personal best 1:06.85.

Rookie Jameson Duncan was the runner-up in the 400m freestyle event. Duncan clocked in with a personal best time of 4:18.75.

Senior Jay Cook was the runner-up in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:00.61, for a personal best. Cook also finished in second 100m freestyle event with a time of 55.68.

The 200m freestyle relay of Scott McGinty, Cook, Collin Hayes and Duncan earned second place points with a time of 1:42.59 while the relay team of Hayes, Andrew Tavcar, McGinty, and Michael Capodanno were the runner-ups in the 200m medley relay event with a time of 1:54.20.

Fairfield took the top three spots in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Senior Evan Barr captured the 1-meter event with a score of 266.25 while sophomore Daniel Pires was the runner-up with a 239.00. Pires captured the 3-meter event with a 265.90 while Barr was the runner-up with a 265.25. Will Sullivan placed third on both boards, posting a 196.60 score on the 3-meter and a 222.05 on the 1-meter. Rookie Benjamin Martin recorded a score of 146.00 on the 3-meter and made a 164.75 1-meter mark.   

The Fairfield men's (2-4) team will take Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on the road. The swimming & diving team will travel New Rochelle, N.Y. on Saturday, January 31 to take on Iona at 1pm.
