FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's swimming & diving team fell to Boston College this evening at the RecPlex Pool. The men were edged 186-107.
Rookie Jameson Duncan broke the program record for the 1500m freestyle event. Duncan was the runner-up in the 1500m free, clocking a time of 17:04.95, breaking the previous program record of 17:11.70 set by Kevin Greener on February 4, 2012. He also earned first place points in the 400m freestyle event with a personal best time of 4:23.09.
Junior Connor Daly posted an individual victory. Daly captured the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:02.55, for a personal best. Daly also earned first place points in the 400m IM and clocked a 2:14.41 in the 200m butterfly, placing third overall.
Sophomore Scott McGinty was the runner-up in the 200m freestyle event, clocking a 2:04.39. McGinty also earned first place points in the 100m butterfly with a 1:01.18.
The 400m freestyle relay of McGinty, Jay Cook, Andrew Tavcar, and Daly earned first place points with a time of 3:520.34 while the relay team of Michael Capodanno, Collin Hayes, Andrew Robinson, and Robert Hansen earned second place points with a time of 3:58.85.
Fairfield took the second and third spots in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Senior Evan Barr was the runner-up on the 1-meter event with a score of 257.48 while sophomore Daniel Pires placed third with a 257.33. Pires was the runner-up on the 1-meter event with a 279.75 while Barr placed third with a 239.70. Will Sullivan placed sixth on both boards, posting a 195.98 score on the 3-meter and a 208.43 on the 1-meter. Rookie Benjamin Martin recorded a score of 136.80 on the 3-meter and made a 156.90 1-meter mark.
The Fairfield men's (2-4) team will continue its home stand. The swimming & diving team will return to the RecPlex Pool tomorrow morning at 10am for Senior Day. Prior to the Stags' final home contest against NJIT the team will honor the contributions of their seniors.
