Women's Tennis Heads to Monmouth on Tuesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team will travel to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Monmouth on Tuesday, April 8 to compete against the Hawks at the Outdoor Tennis Complex. The first serve is set for 3pm.

Fairfield (6-7; 3-1 MAAC) vs. Monmouth: Tuesday's match will be the first time the two programs will meet for dual play. Last year's contest scheduled for March 25 was postponed due to inclement weather and was not rescheduled.

A Look at the Hawks: Monmouth is 4-10 on the season and 1-4 in MAAC play. The Hawks have posted victories over Rider, Wagner, and LaSalle. In their fall season, Monmouth competed in one tournament, the U.S. Naval Academy Tournament. The Hawks are coming off a 6-1 loss to conference opponent Siena on April 6.

Last Time Out: The Stags defeated MAAC opponent Niagara, 5-2, on April 5 at the SportsPlex in North Tonawanda, N.Y. The win lifted the Stags to a 3-1 conference record. After winning the doubles point, Fairfield kept the winning streak into singles play. In the No. 1 spot, Monica Yajima defeated Niagara's Ashley Ta, 6-3, 6-0, while Sharissa Ryan clipped Sarah Hellstern, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 2 spot. Fairfield also picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles where Kaila Nelson downed Iva Celan, 6-0, 6-1, and Victoria Pirrello edged Jenna McCune, 6-0, 6-2.

Pardon Our Appearance: Stags fans will be noticing some changes over the next few weeks to the athletic complex. The first phase of construction on the Rafferty Stadium project has gotten underway. Due to the construction, the Walsh Athletic Center Parking Lot will be closed. Fans are asked to utilize the parking lots at Dolan Commons, Fairfield Prep, the rear of Alumni Hall, and Jogues Hall when they visit Stags Country for a game.

Looking Ahead: Fairfield will bring MAAC action home. The Stags will host Manhattan on April 10 on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts at 3pm.
