Women?s Tennis Falls to Quinnipiac in MAAC Final

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The second-seeded Fairfield University women's tennis team fell, 4-1, to top-seeded Quinnipiac University in the 2014 MAAC Championship match at Mercer County Park this afternoon.

At No. 2 doubles, Sharissa Ryan and Victoria Pirrello were edged by Quinnipiac's Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa, 8-4. The Stags picked up a win at No. 3 doubles where duo Allison Radde  and Kaila Nelson defeated the Bobcats' Kelsi Oliphant and Mary Chupa, 8-4. It came down to No. 1 doubles, where Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn battled but ultimately fell to Quinnipiac pair Sophia Dzulynsky and Sydney Young, 8-7 (10-8).

Quinnipiac (13-10; 8-0 MAAC) won the doubles point but Fairfield tied the match at 1-1 when Yajima defeated Dzulynsky, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 singles. The score became 3-1 in favor of the Bobcats after Young clipped Koladzyn, 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 4 spot and Ariana Launie edged Pirrello, 2-6, 7-6(0), 6-3, in the No. 6 spot. Quinnipiac clinched the match when Raynor defeated Ryan, 5-7, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 spot, Radde was battling Dassa, 4-6, 7-5, 1-1, while Nelson was competing with Oliphant, 1-6, 6-2, 6-5 in the No. 5 spot. Both matches remained unfinished.

Fairfield finished the 2013-14 campaign with a 12-10 overall record and a 7-1 mark in conference play. This year, seven Stags earned All-MAAC honors.
