FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Saint Peter's College, 6-1, this afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The win lifted the Stags to a 7-1 conference record.
At No. 1 doubles, Stags pair Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn defeated the Peacocks' Adina Halagian and Lucia Radovic, 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, Fairfield duo Allison Radde and Kaila Nelson edged Saint Peter's Ivana Grbelja and Vanessa Vogel, 8-4. In the No. 3 spot, Emma Samson and Karen McKeough won by default.
After winning the doubles point, the Stags continued the winning streak into singles play. In the No. 1 spot, Yajima beat Halagian, 6-3, 6-3. Sharissa Ryan downed Grbelja, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 2 spot, while Koladzyn defeated the Peacocks' Elena Puigventos, 6-4, 6-0, in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4 singles was Nelson who edged Radovic, 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out singles play for Fairfield was Victoria Pirrello who defeated Vogel, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 6 singles, Samson won by default.
Fairfield (11-8) has one more match before the 2014 MAAC Championship Tournament. The Stags return to action on April 21, when they travel to Stony Brook to face the Seawolves at 3pm. The 2014 MAAC Championships will be held in West Windsor, N.J. on April 26-27.
