FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team will host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Saint Peter's on Saturday, April 19 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 11:30am. Prior to the match the Stags will be recognizing the contributions of their seniors.
Fairfield (10-8; 6-1 MAAC) vs. Saint Peter's: Saturday's match will be the first time the two programs will meet for dual play since last year's match on February 23. In that contest, Fairfield swept Saint Peter's, 7-0, in Jersey City, N.J. The Stags are 3-0 in their last three meetings with the Peacocks.
A Look at the Peacocks: Saint Peter's is 4-13 on the season and 2-5 in MAAC play. The Peacocks have posted victories over Rider, Monmouth, La Salle, and St. Francis (N.Y.). In their fall season, Saint Peter's competed in three tournaments, including the West Point Invitational, the Drew Tournament, and the NJIT Women's Fall Invitational.
Last Time Out: The Stags defeated the Hartford Hawks, 7-0, on April 17 on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. After winning the doubles point, Fairfield swept No.1 through No. 5 singles.
Senior Status: Saturday's contest will be the final match on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts for seniors Monica Yajima, Sharissa Ryan, Carolina Koladzyn, and Victoria Pirrello. Together, these four Stags have tallied 48 program wins, earned 11 MAAC Player of the Week honors, and helped the team to a MAAC Championship title and two second place finishes. Three-time MAAC Player of the Year Yajima has recorded 138 combined victories, good for third all-time at Fairfield. Ryan, the 2012 MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Performer, has posted 133 combined victories, to rank fourth in program history.
Pardon Our Appearance: Stags fans will be noticing some changes over the next few weeks to the athletic complex. The first phase of construction on the Rafferty Stadium project has gotten underway. Due to the construction, the Walsh Athletic Center Parking Lot will be closed. Fans are asked to utilize the parking lots at Dolan Commons, Fairfield Prep, the rear of Alumni Hall, and Jogues Hall when they visit Stags Country for a game.
Looking Ahead: Fairfield will compete in their last match before the MAAC Tournament on the road. The Stags will travel to Stony Brook to compete against the Seawolves on April 21 at 3pm. The 2014 MAAC Tournament will take place on April 26-27 in West Windsor, N.J.
