Women's Tennis Downs Hartford 7-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team got back on track with a 7-0 victory over Hartford on a chilly afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.

The Stags made quick work of the Hawks in the doubles competition. With one match in hand due to a default, Fairfield's Sharissa Ryan and Victoria Pirrello topped Katina Zampas and Madeline Makings, 8-1, to secure the point.

Fairfield swept the singles competition as well. At the top spot, Monica Yajima won her 15th singles match of the year by defeating Emily Sneddon, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Ryan won her seventh-consecutive singles match by defeating Zampas, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Carolina Koladzyn outlasted Makings, 7-5, 2-6, 10-1, to win her fourth straight match.

At the fourth spot, Pirrello downed Hannah Goldman, 6-1, 6-1. Emma Samson got the nod at No. 5 singles where she defeated Felicia Demarco, 6-2, 6-2. Karen McKeough won by default at No. 6 singles.

Fairfield (10-8; 6-1 MAAC) returns to action on Saturday, April 19 when it hosts its final home match of the season. That's when MAAC foe Saint Peter's visits the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts at 11:30am. The Stags travel to Stony Brook on April 21 in their final tune-up for the MAAC Championships. The 2014 MAAC Championships will be held, April 26-27, in West Windsor, N.J.
